Our Methodology

How We Teach Documentation

All Heirloomx courses are built around the same core principle: that documentation is a household discipline rather than a one-time task. The photography course, workshop, and annual program each address a different part of that discipline, and each can stand alone or combine with the others.

The teaching method across all three uses reading and structured exercises — not video lectures. Materials are written for household use and reviewed before each new cohort to reflect current storage practices and tools.

Course exercises use generic scenarios, so participants are never asked to share personal family information. The work happens at home, using the actual materials and objects in each household's possession.

Reading-Led

Written materials, not video modules — designed for re-reading and annotation over time.

Household-Scaled

No specialist equipment or prior knowledge needed — each course works with what a household already has.

Concrete Outcomes

Each course ends with a usable output — an image archive, a reference folder, or an updated household handbook.

Photographing a family heirloom object at home

Course 1 · ฿2,800

Heirloom Photograph Documentation

A self-directed reading course covering the practical steps for photographing inherited objects at home. Content addresses lighting with natural and household sources, neutral background choices, file-naming conventions for long-term usability, and sensible digital backup habits. The course is suited to households who have accumulated inherited objects — ceramics, textiles, jewellery, furniture, framed images — and want a clear visual record with enough description to be meaningful to other family members.

  • Home lighting and staging techniques
  • Consistent file-naming and folder structure
  • Description writing for non-specialist readers
  • Digital backup and storage habits

Process Steps

  1. 1Read the course materials at your own pace
  2. 2Select a group of objects to document
  3. 3Photograph using the course lighting guide
  4. 4Organise files according to naming conventions
  5. 5Write descriptions and set up backup storage

Family Reference Folder Workshop

A one-day in-person workshop held at the Heirloomx studio in Phaya Thai. Participants work through a structured set of materials to build a single, well-organised household reference folder containing emergency contacts, a shared calendar structure, a household goods inventory, and pet records. The workshop is procedural — the aim is a completed folder by the end of the session, not a discussion about why documentation matters.

  • Emergency contacts, formatted for clarity
  • Shared calendar templates for household coordination
  • Household goods inventory structure
  • Pet records section (medical, registration, care instructions)

Process Steps

  1. 1Register and receive preparation instructions
  2. 2Attend the one-day session at Phaya Thai studio
  3. 3Complete each folder section with facilitated exercises
  4. 4Leave with a completed reference folder and digital template

Monthly reading materials and printed handbook for family records

Course 3 · ฿28,500 / year

Family Records & Memory Reading Program

An annual program combining monthly reading mailings with two in-person group sessions in Bangkok and a printed handbook updated each year. The program is designed for households that prefer a steady reading rhythm — small inputs each month that accumulate over the year rather than intensive blocks of learning. The content covers family record-keeping practices, digital and physical storage, memory annotation, and the transfer of household knowledge across generations.

  • Twelve monthly reading mailings
  • Two Bangkok group reflection sessions per year
  • Printed handbook updated at each annual cycle
  • Access to previous mailings from the current cycle

How the Year Unfolds

  1. 1Enrol at the start of the annual cycle
  2. 2Receive the printed handbook and first mailing
  3. 3Read one monthly mailing each month at your pace
  4. 4Attend two group sessions in Bangkok (mid and end of year)
  5. 5Renew or complete at the end of the twelve-month cycle
